An ELONGATED Soft Palate is an ANIMAL WELFARE Issue in Brachycephalic Dogs !

When we see inside the throat we are supposed to see the UPPER AIRWAY ENTRANCE (where the endotracheal tube goes to provide oxygen).

This is very CHALLENGING in EXTREME BRACHYCEPHALIC BREEDS such as Frenchies, English Bulldogs, & Pugs due to their ELONGATED SOFT PALATE

The SOFT PALATE = soft part in the back of the roof of your dog’s mouth that separates the nasal passages from the mouth

The SOFT PALATE SHOULD NEVER HANG in the throat in front of the windpipe (trachea)

Imagine living with & Blocked Windpipe ?

In FLAT FACED dogs PANTING causes SWELLING which leads to BREATHING ISSUES & RESPIRATORY DISTRESS.

Too many FLAT FACED dog STRUGGLE to BREATHE on a DAILY BASIS

These breeds possess the flat face, pushed-up nose, narrow nostrils, & large eyes

Unfortunately, because of this peculiar anatomy, brachycephalic dogs often have a hard time breathing & have respiratory abnormalities.

This condition is known as brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome BOAS & it is characterized by above or more of the following:

An elongated soft palate
Stenotic nares
Everted Laryngeal Saccules
A narrow trachea
Ever notice that Bulldogs do a lot of snorting? That’s probably due to an elongated soft palate.
