Pets sometimes suffer from an impacted anal gland Dr. Boazman shares what happens & how we surgically treat anal gland abscesses !

Your dog has anal sacs (anal glands) located on both sides & below the anus. They produce fluid with an offensive odor that identify your pet & tells other dogs about the sex, approximate age, health status, & other things.

Healthy anal glands express, or empty, this fluid when your pet has a bowel movement.

Unfortunately, some anal glands don’t work as they should for various reasons.

If the anal glands don’t empty properly, they can become impacted, making bowel movements difficult or painful, & potentially leading to painful infections or abscesses.
